Doomsday or a new beginning?

Are we living in unprecedented times? No, not at all. Names change. This has happened many times before. Maybe not to us though. And even that is not true 100%.

Let’s look at the economical part of this crisis. The stock markets crashed about 30% but during the last one they did about 50%. Remember the last one? It was only 12 years ago (2007/8) and called “financial crisis”. But in many countries we had a really good run since then (especially in Germany)…and one of the longest ever. So, to tumble from the peak 30% isn’t so much after all. Yes, companies will go bankrupt, people will be unemployed and it will be difficult at times. But for me it makes no sense that big corporations scream for public money to save them. Where was the public when sharing the profits? The economy lives in cycles, in fact, (nearly?) everything lives in cycles, and a good company prepares itself for the bad times. Like we also have to do privately. I found this post quite interesting. I guess that this (and my post) will upset some but I could recognize some (of my) truth in it.

I don’t foresee Doomsday but I also don’t expect that there will be a new earth or better era once this Corona is “over” (aka dealt with). The choice is ours what we will have learned from this crisis and what we are going to apply. We can go back to normal (aka as it was before…basically crazy) or we can change the way we want to live. It depends on us what our priorities will be. And for example, the economy will just respond to our wishes. After all, that is the basis of economy. We just forgot and became slaves of the economy.

I have no idea how this crisis will affect me. So far, I have not learned significantly new things (I’m a very slow learner). “Just” seeing things manifest in practice BIG TIME that are known in theory. For example, I can plan (and dream) all I want about the future but what really comes is often out of my control. Yes, there is supposedly this “law of attraction” and you can manifest your future. But ultimately it can be very different (which doesn’t need to be worse necessarily). Still, I want to prepare for it but ultimately I agree to the statement I found in Cape Cross:

Dreams and goals are great. But one isn’t defined by it and certainly not one’s value (for that matter neither what you DO). My dream was to travel through Africa and at some point the world. What am I now? A failure?
Others want to save e.g. the whales. But what happens once they succeeded? Is their life done?
We are so much more than our dreams and goals. Yes, I think we “need” something to strive for and it bothers me that I have nothing but the most important time is the present moment…and I am going to enjoy the fuck out of it. That doesn’t mean to be happy all the fucking time. It means live every moment with all I got. Cry if necessary, laugh if possible.

I will continue pursuing my dream of a long travel and being free but I won’t be defined by it. It will mean that I will be away from the ones that are most important to me, but it also means that I will be closest to the one that matters as well and I have the longest relationship with: me 🙂
And I promise that I will enjoy and be present fully when being with my friends and family…or anybody else of the human family.

One thing I hope is that we will realize that we are in this together. There is no “us and them”…only “we”. Imagine what a world would look like applying this…

Stay save, stay healthy, stay positive!

Love,
Matthias

PS: As you can see from my personal struggles I’m still far way out from where I want to be. I’m not better than anybody else. In fact, nobody is.

PSS: I will write about the last days of the Africa trip next. Stay tuned!
