Day 2 – From Alkofen to Berching

What a surprise in the morning due to…

…the rain! 😯 I didn’t expect any more rain after yesterday. At least that was what the forecast said. But OK, that way I could stay longer in bed. Which was a good thing since I didn’t sleep that well.

Again around 10 am I made my way out. I still continued upriver along the Donau (Danube). In Bad Abbach and Kelheim I got confused with the signs several times. This was not the last time.

Finally, in Kelheim, where the river Altmühl joins the Donau I followed the former one. However, there is not much left from that river. It was transformed into the Rhein-Main-Donau-channel. That way you can ship from the north sea all the way to the black sea. No idea if that is still economical feasible. However, it looks interesting when the boats are lifted in a watergate.

It was difficult today as my legs felt not that great and I did not make a lot of progress. In those moments the monkey mind gets more active. But I had a nice wheat beer and that makes the whole world a much better place. There I could observe something beautiful. A full table besides me where men discuss the banalities of life (and politics). It looked like life is coming back to “normal”.

Only around 70 km today but that is enough. It’s not a race. I did find a lonely spot for the night.

Summary of day 2: Day 1 is easier 😉

Love,
Matthias

PS: How many rivers have you counted so far?
